The Latest Moose Photos

Steve switches the chips on his game cameras every few days. I've been meaning to show you our latest moose pics from ten days ago. That square block in the picture on the ground is a selenium block and the animals just love it: rabbits, porcupines, raccoon, bear, deer, and moose! I get so excited when there are moose or bear or bucks on camera. Have I showed you our pictures of bucks? No? Because they haven't come to the selenium block yet and posed for pics like I asked.

But this moose did!

He must have bedded down and took a snooze because here he is the next morning, back for more licks.

Oops...I think he spotted the camera.

Renovations Make Me Hungry

Steve has banned me to the small part of our little house in the woods because he has been varnishing the cedar and installing a new floor in the larger part of this little 'ole house. I get a little stir crazy because I can't get to my washing machine so of course the laundry is piling up and I can't get into the refrigerator because our bed is pushed up against the doors and maybe that's a good thing now that I think about it.

So when I heard a little rumble of thunder, I put on my hooded sweatshirt, grabbed my camera, called the dogs and we headed down the road, eyeing the sky to make sure we weren't heading into a downpour.

The Fall sky was stormy and beautiful at the same time.

Is it possible to be stormy and beautiful at the same time?

A little gloomy but we stayed dry.

Still nice color against the dark Fall sky.

As you can see, the leaves have fallen fast.

Boy, this two-track sure is beckoning a walk or a road trip.

Steve, are you almost done? I'm not trying to hurry you, but let's go for a ride.

Or move the bed out of the kitchen.

I'm not complaining, but I'm hungry.

UP Fall Colors

The Fall colors are at or near peak around here. The last three days have been breezy but the leaves seem to be hanging on as best they can. Even with the wind, it turned out to be a beautiful Fall weekend.

It all started Saturday. We went for an all day hay ride with neighbors and friends. We dressed warm but it really wasn't bad at all. We had a blast - lots of laughs.

Here are some Fall photos I took on our Sunday afternoon ride by truck.

This is one of my favorites. It looks like we are driving through a tunnel.

And I love the vivid green from the pine trees that mix in with the colors.

Hope it's getting colorful in your neck of the woods!

A Blue Jay Brings Peace

I was sitting along the river the other day, having a cup of coffee, when this Blue Jay flew in to this stump to grab some free grub.

I had sprinkled black sun flower seeds over the stump in hopes of seeing some birds.

I don't believe he ate the seeds, rather he was storing seeds up in his mouth like Chippy the Chipmunk does and then would fly away to hide his stash for the winter.

His face, throat, and neck appeared to be swelling up.

I think here he is stretching to make a little more room.

I haven't blogged for awhile because one of my biggest fans of this simple blog recently peacefully passed away. With tears in my eyes and shaking hands, I wanted to reconnect with those of you who follow The Walking Stick. Thank you so very much.

I felt these peaceful pictures of this Blue Jay were fitting for this blog and inspired me to start writing again and share my hobby of taking pictures. The wonderful man who is now in a better place was named Jay. He will truly be missed and always hold a special place in my heart. Every time I would hit the "publish" button to send a post out into the land of the internet, I envisioned his smiling face and imagined hearing him call out to my mom like he always did when I posted. "Debi blogged!"

Jay sure liked these two bozos.

He will be missed by all.
I especially will miss his hugs.

Go out and hug those you love today.
Hugs to all of you.
Love,
Debi
