Herring Fishing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula's Waterways

It's that time of the year again to chase the herring. One of my favorite things about the UP is fishing.

And at this spot we were fortunate to see a freighter get loaded with limestone.

We caught some pretty nice ones and a few whitefish and menominee too.

We either clean them at home, or go to a fish cleaning station in the quaint town of DeTour. (And yes, I help Steve clean them.)

Then we grill/bake/fry some up for supper, or I brine them overnight and Steve smokes them, or I can them in pint jars which is so yummy to have in the house for quick fish dips or herring patties. This time I'm going to try to pickle them.

Anyone out there in the blogosphere land have a great pickled herring recipe?

Have a great week everyone!
