New Years Day Trip to Grand Marais, Michigan

Yesterday, over morning coffee, Steve asked me if I wanted to go for a New Years Day ride.

"On the snowmobiles?" I asked. Truth was, I wasn't crazy about that idea. There is snow here, but it is pretty thin. As I write this, snowmobilers are passing by. Today is a better riding day as we received a few new inches of snow overnight

"No, let's take the car."

"Where?" I asked.

"How about Grand Marais?"

"Sure!"

As you can see from the above picture, the day started out sunny and bright.

However, the farther north we went, the snowier it became.

We found ourselves looking for the snow sticks alongside the road.

Grand Marais is a two-hour one-way trip from our house and we were almost there.

We didn't want to turn around when we were so close.

But then, just like that, the snow machine stopped, the view cleared, and we drove into Grand Marais.

Just when you think there isn't a human being around for miles, you enter the quaint town of Grand Marais and the town is bursting at the seams with snowmobilers.

Above is the gas station.

To the right is a new cafe in town.

In the distance is the bay and beyond that Lake Superior.

It was an extremely windy and cold day. You can see the waves crash against the break wall.

We took a ride through town, had lunch, and then headed back home. The ride home wasn't too bad.

At times the sun even tried to peek out.

And the snowmobilers just kept a-comin'.

It was a beautiful day in the UP and a beautiful way to start the new year!

I hope you all had a safe and fun-filled Holiday Season and I pray you all have a Blessed 2015!
Love, Debi
